Origin: Apulia

Handmade sweet pastries from Apulia, Cartellate with mulled wine, 180g

by Gargano Sapori

Cartellate, or 'carteddate' in local dialect, are Christmas sweets typical of the Gargano area, in the region in Apulia (Italy).

Details: Cartellate are made with thin strips of puff pastry rolled into a crown shape, local children are in fact traditionally told that they are little crowns for baby Jesus. They are fried to a golden colour and may be topped with almonds and honey or, as in this case, with mulled wine obtained by cooking the juice of Negramaro or Malvasia grapes.

These cartellate with mulled wine are hand-crafted by Gargan'Ok, a company located in the heart of the striking Gargano National Park, founded by Mario Maratea and his family, who carry on the traditional handmade production of typical local products following ancient recipes handed down through generations.

Weight: 180g.

Ingredients: Durum wheat flour, mulled red wine (35%), sugar, white wine, lard, cinnamon, fructose, vegetable oil.

Storing instructions and shelf life: Store in a cool dry place away from heat sources. Expiry date indicated on the package.
